"My mission in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. " Maya Angelou
Don't look now, but we are already well into February. Wasn't it just 2015? Where did January go? What have I been doing? When I'm asking these questions, I know I'm doing more surviving than thriving. I'm engaging in more reactive and less proactive activity. I want to thrive. I assume you want the same. And since we spend more time at work than any other place, it's probably good to consider how we might thrive in that environment.
In this month where we celebrate love, let's begin with compassion. Compassion is not often considered a powerful trait to possess in business. But let me point out Southwest Airlines. Their mission statement includes the following line: "...dedication to the highest quality of Customer Service delivered with a sense of warmth, friendliness, individual pride, and Company Spirit. " It seems like this might be a compassionate way to engage with our residents and it might just help us live into a little more thriving.
What does is look like for you to truly thrive in life? Not someone else, but YOU. What does it look like for you to help others thrive? And, how can you do that at work?
